Since its grand opening on March 31, 1973, Carowinds has been a beacon of excitement and entertainment, drawing in nearly 6,000 eager guests on that momentous day. The park has continuously evolved over the past five decades, striving to deliver new and exhilarating experiences to guests. While much has changed, Carowinds still embraces its roots, with four original attractions continuing to delight guests - the Carolina Skytower, Scrambler, Snoopy’s Junction and Carolina Goldrusher.

Scrambler: A Spinning Amusement Park Staple

Among these cherished classics, the Scrambler continues to captivate guests of all ages with its mesmerizing spinning motion. Initially emerging in the 1930s, this iconic flat ride design, with its 12 gondolas swirling in a circular motion, has become a beloved staple in amusement parks around the globe.

Scrambler was manufactured by the Eli Bridge Company, a family-owned amusement ride manufacturer located in Jacksonville, Illinois. Eli Bridge is a World War II veteran with experience building, and maintaining, military aircrafts. Bridge transferred his military skills to the amusement industry, using aircraft aluminum and technology to manufacture thrilling rides. The company is still in operation today, celebrating over 100 years in the amusement industry. Scrambler brings a sense of nostalgia to Carowinds when riding Scrambler, as this type of flat ride is a staple in amusement parks and theme parks across the globe.

As one of the oldest manufacturers in the amusement industry, the Eli Bridge Company's legacy continues to bring joy to generations of guests.

Delighting Families for Decades

When Scrambler debuted at Carowinds in 1973, it was known as "Kaleidoscope," enchanting visitors in the themed "Contemporary Carolina." Over the years, this timeless ride adorned various color schemes, including the original blue and gray and later a vibrant red and yellow.

In 2010, the attraction embraced its manufacturer name, Scrambler, and received an updated silver and red color scheme as part of a rebranding initiative.

Scrambler Today: Still Spinning On

Today, 50 years later, Scrambler remains a cherished favorite at Carowinds, attracting families and thrill-seekers alike. Situated in the Carousel Park area, Scrambler embodies the joy of nostalgia, reminding guests of the enduring thrills that Carowinds has brought to millions of visitors.

As Carowinds celebrates its '50 years of Carolina fun' this summer, Scrambler stands as a symbol of the park's legacy and dedication to providing fun to all. Season passes offer the best value, granting park admission, complimentary parking and exclusive discounts.

Join us in celebrating half a century of unforgettable moments as we look forward to creating even more cherished memories at Carowinds.
