Carowinds is known for delivering epic experiences, and this fall, the park is introducing a beloved tradition—Oktoberfest! Combining classic German festivities with the excitement of Carowinds, Oktoberfest is one of the park’s can’t-miss three fall events.

The Rich History Behind Oktoberfest

Oktoberfest is one of the world’s most celebrated festivals. Originating in Munich, Germany, in 1810, the first Oktoberfest was held to honor the marriage of future King Ludwig I. Citizens of Munich were invited to join in the week-long celebration, which featured a large feast, horse racing, and singing and dancing to traditional German music. The event was so successful that it became an annual tradition, eventually becoming a global celebration of German culture, food, and beverages.

Oktoberfest at Carowinds

This year, Carowinds brings the charm of Oktoberfest right to the Carolinas, offering fun for all ages. Guests can immerse themselves in a rich cultural experience while enjoying all the thrills the park has to offer.

Carowinds’ Oktoberfest will occur in the Thunder Road area, in and around Harmony Hall. The event lawn near Ripcord will be a central hub, allowing guests to take in the festival amidst the crisp fall air.

Bites and Brews

Oktoberfest at Carowinds offers a range of fun activities. Here are five exciting experiences guests can look forward to:

• Keg Tapping Ceremony: Start each day of Oktoberfest with a traditional keg tapping ceremony! Festivities kick off as soon as the keg is tapped, so make sure to arrive at Carowinds before 11:00 AM to catch the action.
• Friendly Competitions: Put your strength to the test in the Stein Holding Contest or showcase your appetite in the Brat Eating Contest. Compete for bragging rights and the title of Oktoberfest champion!
• Games: Get in on the fun with yard games like cornhole and horseshoes—perfect for guests of all ages.
• Color-by-Numbers: Unleash your inner artist by joining other guests in completing the Oktoberfest color-by-numbers mural. Return at the end of the day to admire the finished masterpiece!

What’s Oktoberfest without festive music? Immerse yourself in the atmosphere with live entertainment that captures the essence of German culture:

• The Über Oompah Band: Located inside Harmony Hall, this lively brass band, clad in lederhosen, will bring the spirit of Oktoberfest to life.
• The Guten Tag Players: Enjoy authentic German music from this talented group, performing on the lawn across from Harmony Hall, for a truly immersive experience.
