Carowinds' Original Attraction: Snoopy's Junction

August 25, 2023

From the moment its gates first opened on March 31, 1973, Carowinds has etched itself into the heart of the Carolinas, greeting nearly 6,000 visitors on its debut. Over five dynamic decades, Carowinds has masterfully curated a mix of heart-pounding rides, delightful family attractions, live performances, and delectable food experiences. Even as the park evolves, its deep-rooted legacy remains vibrant, highlighted by four timeless attractions: the Carolina Skytower, Scrambler, Carolina Goldrusher, and Snoopy’s Junction.

Snoopy’s Junction: A Timeless Ride for All Ages

The only train ride in Carowinds, Snoopy’s Junction takes its younger enthusiasts on a four-minute adventure around a small loop, boasting colorful scenery and lively music. Specifically tailored for the little ones, this attraction shines as one of the few in Carowinds where height isn't a boundary, if a supervising companion accompanies them.

Shortline Railroad: A Nod to Days Gone By

In 1973, the Shortline Railroad served as the connector between the Country Crossroads and the Frontier Outpost areas, located towards the back of the park. Echoing the grandeur of the original Carolina Railroad, this miniature gem eventually found a new station within Carowinds' children's area in 1976, paving the way for the legendary Thunder Road. Once in its new location, the attraction was known as a plethora of different names, reflecting the theming changes of the children's area through the years. Previous titles for the attraction include Flinstone Express, Yogi's Jellystone Garden, and Dora the Explorer's Azul Adventure. In addition to name modifications, the attraction's route was modified twice to accommodate for the introduction of two new projects - Thunder Striker and Harmony Hall.

Snoopy’s Junction Today: PEANUTS Adventures Await

Currently, Snoopy’s Junction anchors the heart of Camp Snoopy, a sprawling three-acre wonderland for children. The ride has been artistically reimagined, adorned with charming stories and characters from the PEANUTS universe. Conductor Snoopy and his trusty assistant Woodstock drive guests around the relaxing loop filled with colorful scenery and lively tunes. From the engine to the caboose, children who ride Snoopy’s Junction will want to enjoy it again and again.
