Carowinds to Host World Wish Day Celebration in Partnership with Make-A-Wish of Central and Western North Carolina
At Carowinds, our mission is to make people happy. Associates can share happiness with those in-need through the Carowinds Cares program, which supports a wide array of non-profits in the community each year. One of these organizations is Make-A-Wish of Central and Western North Carolina.
Make-A-Wish of Central and Western North Carolina
Make-A-Wish’s mission statement is simple: together, we create life-changing wishes for children with critical illnesses. The organization’s team members recognize the strength and hope a Wish can bring to a child, and their family members, going through a challenging time.
The local chapter, Make-A-Wish of Central and Western North Carolina, was established in 1985. This chapter serves 51 counties in North Carolina, including the Charlotte-area. Team members have granted over 5,500 wishes for local children since the chapter was formed.
Local Wish Kids Celebrate World Wish Day at Carowinds
Each April, Make-A-Wish chapters across the nation celebrate World Wish Day, the anniversary of the organization’s first wish. For over a decade, the Central and Western North Carolina chapter has held World Wish Day celebration at Carowinds.
Wish families enjoy a picnic in The Grove at Carowinds on World Wish Day in 2018.
This year, the organization will celebrate World Wish Day at Carowinds on Saturday, April 29. Local Wish families, select donors and community partners will spend the day enjoying the many rides, attractions, and live entertainment at Carowinds. The group will gather at The Grove to enjoy a picnic, take photos, share a few remarks, and enjoy the time with family and friends.
Blue Unicorn Shake Proceeds Will Help Grant Local Wishes
Carowinds guests have a unique way to support Make-A-Wish while visiting the park. Our culinary team has created a new signature menu item, the Blue Unicorn Shake, in honor of World Wish Day. The sweet treat is comprised of a wild berry milkshake, topped with unicorn whipped topping and unicorn ear marshmallows. The rim of the jar is dipped in vanilla icing and sprinkled with star-shaped sprinkles.
During the month of April, leading-up to World Wish Day on Saturday, April 29, all the proceeds from the Blue Unicorn Shake sales will be donated to Make-A-Wish of Central and Western North Carolina. The funds will be used to grant local wishes.
Guests can purchase the Blue Unicorn Shake at Shake Central, located near Harmony Hall and Kiddy Hawk.

Ashlyn Pecchio, digital marketing manager at Carowinds, was a Wish kid. At nine-years-old, Pecchio was diagnosed with Acute Myelogenous Leukemia, an aggressive form of cancer rarely found in children. After an eight-month battle consisting of chemotherapy and many hospital visits, her cancer was in remission. To celebrate the occasion, Make-A-Wish granted her wish to visit New York City.
