Carowinds Celebrates 20 Years of the Carolina Boardwalk
Carowinds pays homage to the best of North Carolina and South Carolina with nods to landmarks throughout the park. In 2002, Carowinds unveiled the Carolina Boardwalk, a themed area to represent the nostalgia of the beaches of the two states.
In 2022, the Carolina Boardwalk area celebrates the 20-year anniversary. To commemorate the occasion, Carowinds has revitalized this area of the park with many updates.
Carolina Cyclone
In 1980, Carolina Cyclone debuted at Carowinds as the first roller coaster to feature four inversions. 42 years later, our associates still recognize the significance of this classic coaster.
Carolina Cyclone received a fresh coat of paint, with a new color scheme, for the 2022 season. The track is bright turquoise with white supports, while the trains feature contrasting yellow and orange coloring. The new color scheme makes the coaster pop under the Carolina sun.
Boathouse Bites & Beer
A new dining location is available to guests while visiting the Carolina Boardwalk area of Carowinds, Boathouse Bites & Beer. The quick-service location features fried favorites, most notably, a variety of corndogs. Menu items include:

In addition to sweet and savory treats, guests can purchase canned beer and Buzzballs.

Boathouse Bites & Beer is located between Sweet Frog and Chickie’s and Pete’s Sports Grill.
Pier 73
The Carolina Boardwalk area’s flagship retail location, Pier 73, was renovated. The building has had a variety of different uses since Carowinds opened in 1973.
The space was first known as Jake’s Leather and Crafts and is the only original building from the themed area known as Frontier Outpost. In the early 2000’s the store was transformed into a virtual reality game, Cyber Sez. Since the mid-2000’s, the building has, once again, been a retail store, with the introduction of the Carolina Boardwalk area.
Pier 73 has bright colors for 2022 that mirror Carolina Cyclone’s new paint scheme. The building also received new larger windows that create an eye-catching storefront. Inside, Pier 73 has unique merchandise displays and features nautical apparel, plush and souvenirs. Additionally, guests can find the sought-after Grand Carousel collection.
