Carowinds opens for the 2014 season!

Charlotte,NC - Carowinds, Thrill Capital of the Southeast! opens for the 2014 season on Saturday March 29! This year will see numerous changes and improvements to the park as it begins the first phase of a multi-year investment plan led by its parent company Cedar Fair Entertainment.

“There are a lot of exciting changes on the horizon” says Bart Kinzel, Carowinds VP and General Manager, “from dining, to infrastructure, entertainment, and rides, in the coming years everything at Carowinds will see exciting improvements and updates.”

2014 highlights
? Opening day will include the anniversary celebration of one of its most thrilling and beloved coasters, Afterburn. Entering its 15th year of taking riders up, down, and around its curves and hills, Afterburn is ready to thrill riders all season long! To mark the occasion in a special way the first 1,500 riders on opening day will receive commemorative lapel pins. Later this summer Carowinds will celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Nighthawk rollercoaster with a special commemorative keepsake.

? Carowinds has broken ground and is building a new dining facility. Harmony Hall Marketplace will be located in front of Carowinds signature coaster, The Intimidator. The facility will have an open food court design, offer a wide variety of dining options, and live entertainment. Slated to open this summer, Harmony Hall will seat up to 500 people. Other new restaurants in the park include Chickie’s and Pete’s a sports themed grill, Auntie Anne’s pretzels, and a newly designed and expanded Chik-fil-A. Carowinds is also introducing an all new “All Day Dining Plan” for $29.99 guests can dine in the park throughout the day at a number of the parks restaurants.

? Carowinds will introduce two NEW waterslides this summer. Dorsal Fin Drop and Surfer’s Swell will stand over 4 stories high and have riders splashing all summer long. The slides will add over 600 feet of sliding fun to the Boomerang Bay waterpark.

? Near the new Harmony Hall is a thrill that has long made visitors scream. Carowinds Xtreme Skyflyer has a new home, and a new name, Ripcord is now in the middle of the park, and will send its riders plunging from 172 feet high across the midway for an unforgettable experience! (Ripcord tickets start at $25.)

? Carowinds is proud to welcome Maiasaura, a new mother dinosaur. Maiasaura brings a nest filled with eggs, and a hatchling to Dinosaurs Alive! A five acre prehistoric path now featuring 33 life sized, roaring, moving animatronic dinosaurs that take visitors back in time. This prehistoric experience is now free to gold and platinum season pass holders all season long.

? All new live shows! We’ve recruited a team of talented singers, dancers, and DJ’s to entertain guests on every stage in the park. Premiering this summer in our Carowinds theatre a Motown revue, in the Harmony Hall Marketplace country music will have everyone clapping, and at the outdoor Carowinds Plaza Stage, DJ’s, singers and dancers will create a summertime dance party sure to get everyone moving! Beginning opening weekend “The Charlie Brown All Star’s” will entertain families and little ones on the Peanuts Showplace stage in Planet Snoopy.
