SCarowinds Survival Guide 2019

Fall is just around the corner, and you know what that means: SCarowinds is upon us! Opening on Friday the 13th (spooky!), our 2019 Scarowinds season is sure to scare up a good time with returning fan-favorite haunted attractions as well as three new shows and three new scare zones. To make sure you're prepared for all the fear and fright, we've created a guide to help you survive the night.

Sign for Scarowinds, Carowinds Halloween event

The first thing you should know is that SCarowinds will include five haunted mazes, eight scare zones and five shows this season. Our newest scare zones include Age of Darkness, Grave Walkers, and Outlaw's Revenge, and our newest shows include Overlord's Awakening, Overlord's Revenge, and Bone Brigade. That's a lot to get through in one night! If you want to experience it all, we have a few recommendations.

First, come on a Friday or Sunday night towards the beginning of the season. Saturday is always the busiest day of the week, and the closer it gets to Halloween, the busier the park gets. To view all our SCarowinds dates, check out our calendar.

Second, no matter which date you choose to come, make sure to arrive early! By doing this, you'll be able to watch our new opening show - the aformentioned Overlord's Awakening - at 7 pm and be one of the first to go through our scare zones and mazes. Pro tip: if this is your first trip to SCarowinds, start at the back of the park. It will be less packed there, and you can work your way towards the front.

Monsters in Scarowinds' haunted maze

If this isn't your first trip to SCarowinds, you may consider a different strategy. Pro tip: make sure you hit all the new attractions first! That way, if you don't have time to experience everything SCarowinds has to offer, you will have seen all the recent additions. To plan your route through the park, take a look at our haunted attractions page here and click on "map".

If you're still concerned about long lines and wait times, purchasing a Fright Lane pass is an option. The pass will allow you to skip the lines on our five haunted mazes.

Finally, if someone in your group wants to enjoy the atmosphere of SCarowinds but doesn't want to be scared, we have "No Boo" necklaces available for purchase at every major retail location in the park. These necklaces let our monsters know who they should not scare. We want to make the Halloween event enjoyable for everyone in your party!

For the full list of SCarowinds dates, view our calendar. To purchase tickets, click here. We can't wait to scare see you!

(And for a milder Halloween event that's fun for the little ones, check out Great Pumpkin Fest.)

Talking to: Make-A-Wish Youth Leadership Council Members

Carowinds has a strong, long-standing relationship with Make-A-Wish Central and Western North Carolina. Through this partnership, I found out about their Youth Leadership Council and was eager to learn more about this important organization which allows young people to learn, grow and help make wishes come true for children with life-threatening medical conditions. I wanted to see it through some members' eyes and Kierra Sunris and Maria Kaltsounis were gracious enough to do email interviews.
