The week of July 8 – July 14 is Autism Awareness Week at Carowinds. We are proud to partner with the Autism Society of America to make sure we serve our guests with autism and their families. Carowinds provides special accommodations so that every member of your family can have an enjoyable experience during your visit to the park.

First Aid and Quiet/Sensory Spaces

Quiet spaces serve as a location for families to take a break and cool off. These spaces can be found at:

  • Guest Services (near the Front Gate Entrance)
  • First Aid (Carolina Boardwalk near Carolina Goldrusher)
  • Family Care Center (Camp Snoopy near Woodstock Express)
  • Carolina Harbor First Aid (Carolina Harbor near Harbor House)

Food

We recognize that many people on the autism spectrum avoid eating foods that contain gluten. Here’s a list of places you can find gluten-friendly foods in the park. You can find more information about gluten-friendly food here.

As the Carousel Turns: The Grand Carousel Celebrates 40 Years at Carowinds

While Afterburn and Hurler celebrated big milestones (20 and 25 years respectively) in 2019, there’s another Carowinds attraction celebrating a landmark anniversary this year: The Grand Carousel. Talking to: Make-A-Wish Youth Leadership Council Members

Carowinds has a strong, long-standing relationship with Make-A-Wish Central and Western North Carolina. Through this partnership, I found out about their Youth Leadership Council and was eager to learn more about this important organization which allows young people to learn, grow and help make wishes come true for children with life-threatening medical conditions. I wanted to see it through some members' eyes and Kierra Sunris and Maria Kaltsounis were gracious enough to do email interviews.
