In 2019, Copperhead Strike will breathe new life into Carowinds, and anchor a brand new immersive area of the park – Blue Ridge Junction. Since we announced Copperhead Strike, construction has been quickly moving along on both this massive coaster as well as our classic family favorite, the Mountain Gliders.
The initial phases of construction mainly took place underground. Our construction crew spent months digging, pouring concrete and securing the footers to support the pieces of Copperhead Strike. Now, track is being installed, and this coaster is finally starting to take shape.
The first piece of track is installed. It will eventually be inside the station.
The jojo roll complete. This will be your very first view as the ride begins.
Each track piece is hoisted into place using a large crane.

The bottom pieces of the first loop are secured into place.
The first 360-degree vertical loop is complete.
This is the first launch, which will be enclosed in Granny's shed, home to her "jam-making" operation.
A lot of preparation has gone into the gliders' return. A new concrete pad has been poured in the new Blue Ridge Junction. The operator booths are complete, and the queue line is beginning to take shape. Over the winter, the ride itself will receive some much needed TLC, and undergo complete re-theming.

The ride is currently disassembled in a maintenance warehouse, waiting for a fresh coat of paint.
There's still a long way to go before Copperhead Strike and Blue Ridge Junction are officially open. Don't miss any of the action! Click here to see our live webcams of the site, and follow us on Instagram @Carowinds for even more construction updates on our story.
