Summer is upon us, and the Carowinds season is in full swing on the Carolina state line. One of this year’s most popular spots has been the new County Fair. Families and thrill seekers alike have really enjoyed the experiences of this newly themed section of the park, especially the four new classic rides.

If you haven’t experienced the new Carowinds County Fair for yourself, here’s a closer look at some of the area’s elements and enhancements that are featured on our four new rides and the re-themed roller coaster, The Flying Cobras.

Carowinds County Fair Welcome

Electro-Spin

Electro-Spin sends guests through a freely rotating orbit and even changes directions halfway through the ride. Complete with an electrifying light package, this unique ride has an arsenal of tangled tricks.

Back in the day, it was common for companies to promote their services and display new products at County Fairs. Fitting this theme, the Electro-Spin is proudly presented by Cackalacky Power and Light. Follow the fictional power company’s mascot as he explores the technological advances of the future and his vision “For a Brighter Tomorrow.”

Rock-N-Roller

The Carowinds County Fair transports guest back to the year of 1958 when Rock ‘n’ Roll was first taking the world by storm. The Rock ‘N’ Roller is a fast-paced circular ride that celebrates this important movement in history with a dazzling display of lighting and theming.

Rock Ride Carowinds

Your journey around this rocking ride is accompanied by the high-energy tunes of WNDZ, 1958 on your AM dial. The station’s DJ plays all the hits that just don’t quit as you spin faster than an old 45. (For our younger readers, 45s are a popular type of vinyl record that got their name for playing at a speed of 45 rotations per minute.)

Do-Si-Do

If you’re looking for some excitement, Do-Si-Do delivers. This spiraling adventure sends guests gliding through the air while increasing speed and elevation. In addition to being a great ride for families, it really brings the new County Fair together at night.

Located next to the Do-Si-Do is a large prop truck called, “The Original Whip-It.” There are tons of vintage County Fair props strapped to the top, which is a nod to the quick move in and set up of traditional fairs. Fun fact, there are seats located in the bed of the truck that actually spin when the truck is in motion. Could this be our new addition in 2018…don’t count on it.

County Fair at Carowinds

Zephyr

This Zephyr unique location gives guests a chance to swing back-and-forth over the Carolina state line in a wavelike motion that serves up some breathtaking views of the County Fair. At night, this traditional swing ride really comes to life with an impressive display of classic, white lighting.

Night Carowinds

The panels located on the side of the ride feature renderings of vegetables and livestock that celebrate the Carolinas’ thriving agriculture industry. Before your next swing across the state line, check out the Zephyr’s art and see if you can spot the angry chicken.

The Flying Cobras

The ride formally known as the Carolina Cobra got an impressive makeover that’s made the coaster look brand new. Fitting for any Carolina County Fair, The Flying Cobras are themed after an air show. Each car on the roller coaster train features a different stunt pilot and a different plan design. Together - Chet, Flip, Sandy, Ace, Sam, Gale and Chuck make up the Flying Cobras.

Theming surrounds the entrance of the queue line with old-fashioned plane props and propellers. The leaders even have their own bio that tell the story of two men that are the right brothers to lead the amazing aerial acrobatics of The Flying Cobras.

There’s a world of new experiences waiting in the new Carowinds County Fair. Until next time, wishing you a fair day of fun and AirTime.
