Changes on the Horizon at Carowinds

December 18, 2024

Recently our parent company, Six Flags Entertainment Corporation, announced a more than $1 billion investment in our family of theme parks over the next two years. Here at Carowinds we will debut the largest family investment in our history as we unveil a family launch coaster and an interactive raft ride in Camp Snoopy in 2025. We’re excited to share that this is just the beginning of a multi-year expansion.

In 2026, we’ll make an epic splash with the addition of a record-breaking water ride. We can’t wait to share many more details next summer.

As we look toward the future, we have to make some tough decisions. To move forward and evolve sometimes we must step away from some attractions from our past.

To continue to enhance your experience, we will retire Nighthawk, Scream Weaver and Drop Tower.

Nighthawk took flight in 2004, but its journey actually began at California’s Great America four years earlier. It let riders soar over the park in a unique riding position and gave them a virtually unobstructed view of the park.

Scream Weaver first debuted in County Fair in 1979 but found its permanent home in Thrill Zone in 1993. Its head-over-heels spin delivered countless screams throughout its 30+ years at the park.

Drop Tower first opened in 1996, and has been delivering dizzying drops from 174 feet in the air at speeds up to 56 miles an hour.

We know that saying goodbye to beloved rides can be difficult, and we appreciate your passion. These changes are an important part of our growth and underscore our commitment to elevating the park experience. We’re excited about the future, and we can’t wait to begin this journey with you at Carowinds.
