Manager - Accounting

Carowinds has an immediate opening for the position of Accounting Manager in Charlotte, NC. This full-time position will report to the Director of Finance.

JOB SUMMARY:
Responsible for overseeing all aspects of financial reporting including compilations and review of income sheets, balance sheets, expenditures, and tax schedules. Maintains the general ledger, chart of accounts and cost center reporting. 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting supplemented by two to four years of progressive financial leadership experience at a mid or large-sized corporation or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
  • At least 18 years of age.
  • Experience of JD Edwards a plus.
  • Ability to pass a mandatory or random drug test, per Company policy, unless prohibited by federal, state or provincial law.
  • Ability to pass a background check, which may include, but is not limited to, credit, criminal, DMV, previous employment, education and personal references, per Company policy, unless prohibited by federal, state, or provincial law.
  • Proficient in Windows, Word, Excel, and Microsoft Outlook.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Supervises duties of assigned managerial and supervisory staff. Supervisory duties include instructing, assigning, reviewing and planning work of others, maintaining standards; coordinating activities; allocating personnel; selecting new associates; acting on associate problems; and recommending and approving associate promotions, transfers, discipline, discharge and salary increases. Also performs employee evaluations for direct reports.
  • Establishes policies, procedures, goals and objectives for assigned areas of responsibility, determines necessary structure and manpower to accomplish goals. Ensures staffs’ compliance with all applicable policies, procedures, rules and regulations.
  • Provides, interprets and presents company management with information needed by them to carry out their assigned responsibilities. Compiles Ad Hoc reports and analysis. Answers questions relating to financial inquiries.
  • Produces, reviews and distributes divisional expense forecast for integrity, completeness and financial impact on operations.
  • Reviews and posts the weekly journal entries of direct reports. Prepares weekly and adjusting entries to be reviewed and posted by the Finance Director.
  • Administers changes to the general ledger. This includes working with Corporate IT and adds new users to the system.
  • Prepares and assists in internal/external audits.
  • Receives, reviews, prepares and/or processes various records and reports including financial statements, financial reports and analyses, journal entries, Point of Sales reports, operating reports, attendance reports, unclaimed property reports, intercompany transactions, wire and ACH requests, annual tax package, reconciliations, inventories, yearly fixed asset additions, occupancy reports, concessionaire payments, collections, policies and procedures.
  • Interacts and communicates actively with various groups and individuals such as Finance staff, Information Systems Manager, other members of the Park Management Team, other Park Associates, corporate personnel, personnel of other Parks, vendors, professional peers, consultants, tax authorities, guests, etc.
  • Adheres to all park policies and procedures, including attendance and EEO policies, and demonstrates commitment to customer service in all aspects of employment.
  • Other duties as may be assigned.

Electrician

Carowinds has an immediate opening for the position of Electrician in Charlotte, NC.  This full-time position will report to the Electrical Foreperson. 

JOB SUMMARY:

Responsible for installing, inspecting, maintaining and performing electrical repairs of park rides, ensuring efficient and safe operations at all times according to Carowinds standards. Assists in ride mechanical maintenance as required.  Performs technical duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Minimum 1-2 years related experience in industrial electrical maintenance work, or a school equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
  • Themed amusement park experience a plus.
  • At least 18 years of age.
  • Driver’s license required.
  • Ability to pass a mandatory or random drug test, per Company policy, unless prohibited by federal, state or provincial law.
  • Ability to pass a background check, which may include, but is not limited to, credit, criminal, DMV, previous employment, education and personal references, per Company policy, unless prohibited by federal, state, or provincial law.
  • Must be able to read electrical schematic charts, technical manuals and diagrams, and policy and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to work with tools, two-way radio, various office and shop equipment, welding equipment, hand and power tools, heavy rigging, machinery, and heavy equipment, which may include forklift, genie lift, boom truck, lathe, milling machine, steam cleaner, etc.
  • Ability to climb and work at heights up to 330 feet.
  • Required to wear personal protective equipment including steel toed shoes, fall protection equipment.
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule including weekends, holidays and overtime. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Installs, maintains, troubleshoots, rebuilds and inspects ride electrical systems and components for proper operation according to Carowinds standards.  Assists in troubleshooting and maintaining mechanical, pneumatic and hydraulic systems.
  • Inspects and evaluates rides for proper function, detects and investigates any malfunctions or irregularities and notifies supervisor of any safety concerns. Troubleshoots, diagnoses and repairs malfunctions using electrical schematic charts, computers, programmable logic controllers, test equipment and meters. Responsible for completing required documentation on check-outs, preventive maintenance, updates/changes, etc.
  • Receives and reviews various records and reports including ride manuals and updates, ride electrical programs and diagrams, technical manuals, computer manuals, operating schedules, check-out sheets, work orders, vehicle maintenance check sheets, operational downtime sheets, material safety data sheets, etc.
  • Ensures rides are maintained according to manufacturers, Carowinds and Department of Labor guidelines to ensure the safety of ride operation and guests.
  • Assists with various other maintenance duties as required including landscaping, welding, carpentry, plumbing, construction, pest and animal control.
  • Assists emergency personnel in emergency evacuation procedures, providing training to the staff, ride operators and technicians.

Area Manager - Entertainment 

Carowinds has an opening for an Area Manager Entertainment in its Operations Division in Charlotte, NC. This fulltime position will report to the Manager of Entertainment.

JOB SUMMARY:

The Area Manager Entertainment is responsible for the execution of all aspects of the Entertainment division to include developing, coordinating, managing and marketing all operations of the Entertainment, SCarowinds Halloween Haunt, Winterfest, special events, shows and concerts.  The Entertainment Area Manager will work closely with the Entertainment Manager to create, execute and manage show and attraction product from concept to operation to strike.  

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Bachelor’s Degree (4 year college or university)

• 4-5 year experience in the entertainment industry.  Themed amusement park experience a plus. 

• 2-3 year supervisory experience.

• At least 18 years of age.

• High degree of PC literacy, including MS Office applications

• Highly organized with strong attention to detail.  Must be able to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced and detail-oriented environment.  

• Strong verbal, written communication and interpersonal skills

• Ability to create and manage expenses and budgets.  

• Ability to pass a mandatory (or random) drug test, per Company policy, unless prohibited by state or provincial law.

• Ability to pass a background check, if 18 years of age or older, which may include, but is not limited to, credit, criminal, DMV, previous employment, education and personal references, per Company policy, unless prohibited by federal, state, or provincial law

• Ability to work nights, weekends and holiday periods to meet business needs

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Controls, organizes and executes operating plans for Live Entertainment, Paladium, SCarowinds, Winterfest and other special events.  Monitors and takes action to ensure operation remains within budget guidelines set by the Entertainment Manager.  

• Manages approximately 25-30 shows per year and 20-25 attractions, Mascot Character department, Dinosaur’s Alive! attraction, Park ambassador program and multiple special events.  Oversees Live Entertainment supervisors, performers, attendants, and technicians including the electric shop, scenic shop and costume/makeup shop.  

• Coordinates entertainment auditions, interviews, hiring and on-boarding.  Supervises duties of subordinate seasonal staff, including instructing, assigning, planning and reviewing of work for accuracy and completeness.  Maintain standards, coordinating activities, allocating personnel and training.  Responsible for department scheduling, recommending and approving employee promotions, transfers, discipline and discharge.  

• Coordinates the installation of new show product, attractions and multiple large-scale special events, multiple departments within Carowinds, as well as outside vendors.  Events include SCarowinds, Winterfest, Paladium Concerts, Taste of the Carolinas, etc.)

• Assists the entertainment manager with budgeting, planning of new show/attraction concepts & design, create or revise operating plans, creating and proofing departmental promotional materials as well as other duties as assigned.  

• Acts as a liaison between the Entertainment department and sub-contracted production staff members to ensure show plans are executed properly and efficiently to Carowinds standards.  

• Adheres to and enforces all Cedar Fair and specific Park policies and procedures, including safety, attendance and EEO policies, and demonstrates a commitment to customer service in all aspects of employment.

• Other duties may be assigned.

Sales Representative 

Carowinds has an immediate opening for the position of Sales Representative in Columbia, SC.  This full-time position will report to the Manager of Group Sales.

JOB SUMMARY:

The Sales Representative is responsible for developing, managing, and increasing sales within an assigned geographic territory or business segment. This position is expected to meet or exceed specific attendance and revenue goals as prescribed by the Corporate Sales Incentive Plan by spending a minimum of 50% of work time soliciting sales at customers’ and potential customers’ places of business. Remaining work time shall be devoted to furthering individual sales efforts through exceptional customer service and follow-through.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent
  • Minimum 1-2 years related experience in the theme park, hospitality, entertainment or travel industry.
  • At least 21 years of age.
  • Must live in Columbia, SC.  Daily travel required.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in an independent environment with minimum supervision and deliver against set goals.
  • Strong time and project management skills and experience.
  • Advanced written and oral communication skills, experience in public presentations, superior spelling, punctuation, and grammar.
  • Ability to work nights and weekends as required by business and account demands.
  • Proficient in basic business software applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and comfortable with learning new software and CRM applications.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Ability to pass a mandatory or random drug test, per Company policy, unless prohibited by federal, state or provincial law.
  • Ability to pass a background check, which may include, but is not limited to, credit, criminal, DMV, previous employment, education and personal references, per Company policy, unless prohibited by federal, state, or provincial law.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develops, manages, and sells to new and existing accounts within assigned geographic territory or business segment through in-person sales and service calls.
  • Manages territory/segment by spending a minimum of 50% of time soliciting sales at customers’ or potential customers’ places of business.
  • Performs other work that furthers individual outside sales efforts including, for example, follow-up communication via telephone and written materials, planning and preparing for outside sales calls, preparing and analyzing sales reports, preparing proposals and other individual marketing and sales materials, providing tours of event and park support to all clients with regard to marketing and on site coordination of events and activities, etc.
  • Recommends new or different programs to meet the needs of each client including new catering options, ticket programs, or other revenue streams to meet the wishes of the client.
  • Adheres to all park policies and procedures, including attendance and EEO policies, and demonstrates commitment to customer service in all aspects of employment.
  • Other duties as may be assigned.
