Communications Director

Carowinds has an opening for a Director, Communications in its Marketing Division in Charlotte, NC. This fulltime position will report to the VP of Marketing & Sales.

JOB SUMMARY:

The Director of Communications is responsible for the strategic development and execution of integrated communication/marketing plans that support brand strategy and drive consumer demand.  The role has direct responsibility for all aspects of public/media relations and digital marketing efforts as well as partnering with cross-discipline teams to develop and execute holistic marketing plans. This position plays an integral role in establishing the Carowinds’ brand in the marketplace.  

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Bachelor’s Degree (4 year college or university)

• 8 - 10 years in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism or relevant experience

• Excellent writing, verbal communication and interpersonal skills; on-camera experience a plus

• News writing and editing experience; journalism experience a plus

• Experience managing social media channels and campaigns

• Proven history of managing communication for crisis situations

• Experience developing and executing large-scale media events

• High degree of PC literacy, including MS Office applications

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Manage development of integrated communication/marketing plans across disciplines that drive key annual business initiatives

• Lead all aspects of public/media relations and digital channels: social media, website, mobile app and email newsletter campaigns

• Manage full-time and seasonal teams ensuring all publicity and digital goals are attained

• Must be a strategic thinker who is comfortable gathering insights and direction from various partners, and then applying those insights to development and execution.

• Lead park content/editorial strategies to drive highly engaging content throughout Carowinds various marketing channels. 

• Develop strong relationships with relevant media contacts, bloggers and enthusiast groups.

• Proactively pitch media contacts as needed and create unique story angles to increase editorial coverage for Carowinds

Entertainment Manager

Carowinds has an opening for an Entertainment Manager in its Operations Division in Charlotte, NC.  This fulltime position will report to the Director, Operations.

JOB SUMMARY:

Responsible for overseeing and coordinating all show concepts, development, abd quality of Entertainment shows to include SCarowinds, WinterFest, special events, show and concerts.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Prepares operating plan and budget for costumes and live entertainment, Paladium events, SCarowinds and WinterFest. Monitors and takes action to ensure operation remains within budget guidelines.
  • Plans, organizes and controls resources of Entertainment, Paladium, SCarowinds and WinterFest.
  • Works with Cedar Fair Corporate and Carowinds management staff to research and plan new show product for Carowinds, SCarowinds and WinterFest, including ideation and concept generation, production planning, coordinating and adjudicating entertainment auditions, as well as manage the day-to-day performances and staff.  Monitors live show performances throughout the operating season to ensure the presentations meet Cedar Fair standards. 
  • Coordinates with Entertainment Production manager and the maintenance department to plan and coordinate the install of shows, special events, SCarowinds and WinterFest.
  • Acts as a liaison with the Entertainment department and other sub-contracted production staff members to ensure communication for show production.  Interacts and communicates with various groups and individuals such as the immediate supervisor, other park managers/department heads and employees, subordinates, guest, corporate officials and employees, vendors, contractors, artists, artists’ agents, Ticketmaster personnel, promotors, news media, promotional partners and the general public.
  • Coordinates the operations of all special events and concerts including auditions.  Updates and distributes comprehensive list of events.  Provides logistical support for all media previews and new product announcements.
  • Supervises duties of subordinate seasonal staff, including instructing, assigning, planning and reviewing work for accuracy and completeness, maintaining standards, coordinating activities, allocating personnel, selecting new employees, training, acting on employee problems, recommending and approving employee promotions, transfers, discipline and discharge.

Area Manager, Events & Ticketing

Carowinds has an opening for an Area Manager, Events & Ticketing in its Marketing Division in Charlotte, NC. This fulltime position will report to the Director, Consumer Demand Marketing.

JOB SUMMARY:

The Area Manager, Events & Ticketing assists in the implementation of strategy supporting attendance and admission revenue driven through consumer demand channels for Carowinds.  This position is primarily focused on execution and set up of e-commerce and consumer demand tickets in addition to management of tactical consumer events. Performs related administrative, supervisory and professional work as required.

Electrician

Carowinds has an immediate opening for the position of Electrician in Charlotte, NC.  This full-time position will report to the Electrical Foreperson. 

JOB SUMMARY:

Responsible for installing, inspecting, maintaining and performing electrical repairs of park rides, ensuring efficient and safe operations at all times according to Carowinds standards. Assists in ride mechanical maintenance as required.  Performs technical duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS:

High school diploma or GED equivalent.

Minimum 1-2 years related experience in industrial electrical maintenance work, or a school equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.

Themed amusement park experience a plus.

At least 18 years of age.

Driver’s license required.

Ability to pass a mandatory or random drug test, per Company policy, unless prohibited by federal, state or provincial law.

Ability to pass a background check, which may include, but is not limited to, credit, criminal, DMV, previous employment, education and personal references, per Company policy, unless prohibited by federal, state, or provincial law.

Must be able to read electrical schematic charts, technical manuals and diagrams, and policy and procedure manuals.

Ability to work with tools, two-way radio, various office and shop equipment, welding equipment, hand and power tools, heavy rigging, machinery, and heavy equipment, which may include forklift, genie lift, boom truck, lathe, milling machine, steam cleaner, etc.

Ability to climb and work at heights up to 330 feet.

Required to wear personal protective equipment including steel toed shoes, fall protection equipment.

Must be able to work a flexible schedule including weekends, holidays and overtime. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Installs, maintains, troubleshoots, rebuilds and inspects ride electrical systems and components for proper operation according to Carowinds standards.  Assists in troubleshooting and maintaining mechanical, pneumatic and hydraulic systems.

Inspects and evaluates rides for proper function, detects and investigates any malfunctions or irregularities and notifies supervisor of any safety concerns. Troubleshoots, diagnoses and repairs malfunctions using electrical schematic charts, computers, programmable logic controllers, test equipment and meters. Responsible for completing required documentation on check-outs, preventive maintenance, updates/changes, etc.

Receives and reviews various records and reports including ride manuals and updates, ride electrical programs and diagrams, technical manuals, computer manuals, operating schedules, check-out sheets, work orders, vehicle maintenance check sheets, operational downtime sheets, material safety data sheets, etc.

Ensures rides are maintained according to manufacturers, Carowinds and Department of Labor guidelines to ensure the safety of ride operation and guests.

Assists with various other maintenance duties as required including landscaping, welding, carpentry, plumbing, construction, pest and animal control.

Assists emergency personnel in emergency evacuation procedures, providing training to the staff, ride operators and technicians.

Area Manager Group Sales

Carowinds has an immediate opening for the position of Area Manager Group Sales in Charlotte, NC.  This full-time position will report to the Sales Director. 

JOB SUMMARY:

The Group Sales Area Manager serves as the Assistant Sales Manager for the department and is responsible for many aspects to make the team successful. Responsibilities include onboarding all new Group Sales staff including Corporate Sales Reps and seasonal staffing, CRM processing, direct mail projects and serves as the liaison between Sales Reps and operations departments.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Proficient in Windows, Word, Excel, Microsoft Outlook and knowledge of CRM systems.
  • Superior organizational skills.

  • Spearhead all Group Sales CRM efforts.  Oversight of direct mail, email campaigns and performance analysis.
  • Responsible for creating, implementing and distributing promotional material for all ticket programs, manage product coding and set up in conjunction with Finance. Work with Sales Director to implement ticket offers, exclusive programs, etc. throughout the season to maximize attendance and revenue. 
  • Development and implementation of outbound call center including hiring, training, managing and developing team. This also includes labor management. 
  • Oversee the successful operation of the in-bound call center.   
  • Attend Operations meetings to keep all departments informed of events.
  • Responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Sales Department.  Act as a liaison between Sales Reps and operational departments and oversee the communication between picnic coordinator and catering team.   
  • Responsible for onboarding of all new Group Sales staff (Corporate Sales Reps and seasonal staffing.)  Be involved with territory alignment planning and territory analysis of business trends to best determine positive outcomes.  Ride in the field with Reps and provide management feedback.

Carowinds has an opening for an Area Manager Park Operations in its Operations Division in Charlotte, NC.  This fulltime position will report to the Manager, Park Operations.

JOB SUMMARY:

Responsible for managing the operation of the Rides department, and assisting in the managing of the Park Services Department.  This position supervises the performance of seasonal managers and associates to ensure the safe and efficient operations of all rides and attractions. High levels of self-motivation, leadership and development, initiative, multi-tasking and time management are essential.

QUALIFICATIONS :

  • Associates degree or equivalent.
  • 2-4 years related experience in Ride Operations and Safety preferred.
  • Ability to plan, organize and direct a managerial staff.  Must be able to apply supervisory and managerial concepts and principles; knowledge of administrative principles involved in developing, directing and supervising various programs and related activities.
  • Excellent communication skills required to interact with park management, subordinates, guests, vendors, etc. to maintain effective relationships.

  • Responds to and assists with emergency situations that may occur.
  • Recruits, hires and trains seasonal associates to maintain optimal staffing levels throughout the operating season and within budget.
  • Supervises subordinate seasonal management staff; supervisory duties include, instructing, assigning, reviewing and planning work of others; maintaining standards; coordinating activities; allocating personnel; selecting new associates; acting on associate problems;  motivating associates;  recommending and approving associate promotions, transfers and discipline, and recommending discharge.
  • Orders and purchases supplies.  Follows established accounting procedures for documentation of purchases. Analyzes and monitors supplies expenses, recommending necessary adjustments to product and the operation.  Evaluates products to ensure their cost and overall effectiveness.
  • Receives and responds to guest comment reports and interacts with park guests in person; takes corrective action as necessary to maintain effectiveness of park services and products.
  • Adheres to and enforces all Cedar Fair and specific park policies and procedures, including safety, attendance and EEO policies, and demonstrates commitment to guest service in all aspects of employment.
