Taste of the Carolinas - Food

Taste of the Carolinas isn’t your average Charlotte food festival. It’s a full-blown celebration of Carolina culture with highlights of seven Carolina regions, an amazing lineup of authentic food, live music, arts and crafts, craft beer/local wine samplings and cooking demonstrations. Not to mention, all of your favorite Carowinds attractions and the all-new County Fair.

On Saturdays and Sundays through May 14, guests will be able to tour the Carolinas with their taste buds. From the mountaintops of Asheville to the waters of the Lowcountry, you’ll sample the eclectic delicacies and savory soul foods that define our culture.

Seven Regions of Flavor

Charleston Region

Google “Charleston food,” and you’ll find hundreds of national publications calling the Holy City a haven for foodies. You’ll see why after sampling our sweet tea glazed chicken, our crispy shrimp and grits or our Lady Baltimore cake.

Lady Baltimore Cake

Asheville/Mountain Region

Altitude affects attitude, and the highlands are full of good mood food. After trying our menu of smoked egg and pork belly salad, mushroom ravioli with wild herb and pecan cinnamon bread pudding with cream icing – you’ll be all smiles.

Upstate South Carolina Region

This 10-county region in northwest South Carolina is the largest peach producer in the South, and they can serve up a ton of delicious soul food. Taste the Upstate with our sweet potato popover, spring onion bread pudding with pickled peaches or butterbean sliders with pimento cheese and arugula.

Lowcountry Region

The lower, most southern part of South Carolina is home to salty aromas, the sweet sound of hymns, Spanish moss and laid back vibes. You’ll be transported to the Lowcountry after getting a taste of our peanut and oyster stew, tomato pie and bourbon chocolate fritters.

South Carolina BBQ Region

South Carolina is all about the mustard-based BBQ sauce. Regardless of which sauce you prefer, you can’t argue with our popular pulled pork spring rolls, BBQ roasted corn or our poached peaches over gelato.

Outer Banks Region

The birthplace of flight (we don’t care what Ohio says) is full of flavor that will have your taste buds soaring. Our frog legs, fried catfish, Calabash hushpuppies and seafood potato croquette are first in flavor.

Lexington BBQ Region

Known as the BBQ Capital of the World, Lexington “Q” features a vinegar-based sauce the perfectly pairs with smoky meats. You’ll be holding back the tears after tasting our triple-header of heartiness: beer-basted pulled pork slider, BBQ chicken slider, and BBQ ribs.

In the Carolinas, food is more than just nourishment. It’s home. It’s family. It’s good conversation. Food is about coming together, and that’s what Taste of the Carolinas is all about.

Taste of the Carolinas is held on Saturdays and Sundays through May 14. Entertainment and chef demonstrations are included in park admission. Food samples and special beer & wine sample events are an additional cost.

We hope to see y’all there!
