Reason #98 to have a Season Pass to Carowinds: Your Instagram will be on point!

With so many memories to capture and iconic places to photograph, it’s no wonder why Carowinds is one of the most Instagrammed locations in the Carolinas. After all, did you really visit if you didn’t post it on Instagram?

From state line selfies and funnel cakes to Carolina Harbor and roller coasters, a trip to Carowinds will have your Instagram {fire emoji}. Regardless if you’re new to Instagram or if you’re trying to get your followers count up, CaroWinning your Instagram feed is easy when you have an interesting and beautiful setting like Carowinds.

As the resident photographer and social media guy at Carowinds, here are some personal tips you can use to make you Instafamous.

Instagram Tips for Carowinds

Please remember, for the safety of our guests and associates, cameras of any kind are not permitted on rides. Never enter restricted areas, and please obey all posted signs, gates and fences.

The Basics

1) Research – Follow Carowinds on Instagram. This is more of a request than a tip, but it’s a fun way to connect to the park and could provide a spark of inspiration for your posts.

2) #Carowinds – Tag all your photos with #Carowinds. Using our official #hashtag gives your photos a chance to be featured on FunTV, and it helps your photos be found by others. Add any additional hashtags that fit with or describe the photo to help extend your posts’ reach even further.

3) Location – When add the location to your post, choose “Carowinds” as your location. There may be a few different options to choose from, but choosing “Carowinds” will help us see your photos so we can like, comment and repost!

4) Tag Us – Be sure to also tag @carowinds in your photos. This will almost double the exposure of your posts and help you find new followers (if you’re into that sort of thing).

5) Post – When you’ve completed steps, post your picture(s), sit back, enjoy a candy apple and watch those likes roll in.

Photographing Carowinds

Thanks to today’s technology, your phone’s camera is a powerful tool. While I prefer a DSLR camera, I’ve actually taken some great pictures with my phone. Camera phones are great to use in a pinch, especially when you don’t have time or the desire to experiment with your camera’s settings.

Here are some quick tips for capturing that perfect photo at Carowinds for iPhone users (sorry Androids):

1) Rule of thirds – This is all about spacing the images in your photo. The rule of thirds states an image should be divided into nine equal parts and your subject shouldn’t be centered. In a nutshell, play around with the positioning of your subject and be creative.

2) Burst Mode – Your camera’s “burst mode” is great for capturing those fast action shots, like a 95mph coaster. Simply hold down the camera’s shutter and you’ll take multiple photos in rapid succession.

3) Selfie Game – Your iPhone has two camera lenses, a selfie camera located above your phone’s screen and a rear-facing camera. To take your selfie game to the next level, use the rear-facing camera when possible. It takes better pictures.

4) No Zoom – When possible, avoid using the camera’s zoom tool. The more you zoom, the more pixilated your photos will look.

5) Take TONS of photos – It usually takes more than one try to get the perfect shot, so take as many photos as possible to increase your chances.

6) Editing – If needed, I edit the vast majority of our Instagram photos inside the Instagram app. It’s a pretty powerful tool and gives you more flexibility than just adding a filter.

Nothing ground breaking here, but hopefully these tips will help you get All the Likes during your next visit at Carowinds. And luckily for Season Passholders, they’ll be #CaroWinning their Instagram feed all season with unlimited visits.
