Our Guest Blogger, Travis, Gears Up for "Coasting for Kids"« Go Back Sunday, April 8th, 2012
Hey everybody! Bryn has asked me to do some blog posts on something really exciting coming to the park in June. It’s the third annual “Coasting for Kids” charity event. For the past two years Carowinds has partnered with “Give Kids the World,” a non-profit organization located in Central Florida dedicated to providing children with serious illnesses and their families the chance to experience some of the incredible attractions The Sunshine State has to offer, cost free.
“Give Kids the World” not only helps families enjoy all the attractions, they also have a 70 acre “storybook” village to facilitate them. So day in and day out these kids see the fairy-tales that they so love, come to life right before their eyes in this “enchanted” village. But behind this magic comes a reality. The reality that, without support, none of this is possible.
The demand for trips are getting greater and greater and the village is over 100% full seventy percent of the year, which means they have to house some families off site. Give Kids the World’s goal is to expand their 70 acre facility by almost 200 villas over the course of the next three years.
“What can I do to help?” you might be asking. That’s where Carowinds comes in. On Sunday June 10th, they will host the third annual “Coasting for Kids” event to raise money for this great charity. I, along with others will be marathon riding Thunder Road all that day to show our support! No waiting in line, just riding. All day long! Does that sound like something you’d like to do? Support a great cause while riding on such a great historic roller coaster? If so, it’s extremely easy to get involved. Just go to http://www.coastingforkids.org/, select Carowinds at the top of the website, click the big green “Register” button, follow the simple steps, and boom! You are almost ready for Coasting for Kids. Lastly, promote your page. You need to raise at least $75 to participate, so tell people about it! Post it to all your favorite social sites, email people about it, make a video about what you’re doing. Just get the word out to people!
Maybe you’d like to get involved but can’t be there for the event. Don’t worry! Head on over to http://www.firstgiving.com/gktw/Carowinds, and check out the “Fundraisers” tab. You can support your favorite fundraiser by making a donation and leaving a word of encouragement for them. My personal goal is $150 and I’d love to meet or even exceed that.
So go register for, and donate to this amazing effort. Your support will get us one step closer to “Giving Kids the World.”
